Practicing Art and Animation

Jaden McGrath        4/11/19 There is an old saying that people like to say and that is, "Practice makes perfect".  This can apply to a lot of areas like if you want to master a subject in school like fractions in math, a sport you want to be a professional at, or something as simple as beating a tough video game. This same field of logic can apply to being an artist, illustrator, or even animator. Because if you want to be one of those three things, then it is near impossible to avoid practicing your drawing over and over to get it down just right. It is a lot better to learn step by step in smaller chunks than to try and learn everything at the same time and also repetition helps your brain learn the process better. Now do not confuse actual work with practice as both of them are different altogether. Because in actual work, it is something you are already good at as where practice is something to help you get good at something in particular. There are a f...

Week Report #15

Jaden McGrath      4/11/19 This week in my animation class here at BOCES, I continue to work on my final project in MAYA. Originally I thought I was completely done with the project, but I realized that it needed to be at 45 seconds long and mine was about 30 seconds. So I have decided to add a little addition to it to make the project longer in length. I don't want to say what it is just in case I spoil it, but all I will say is that it gets a little strange. So far, the work on the addition has been going pretty smoothly, although I do believe I have found my Achille's heel when it comes to MAYA. And that would be walking. I mean I can make a character run and jump, but for some reason, making them walk is proving difficult for me. Most of the time it looks like the character is ice skating on the grass rather than just walking normally. It is something that I truly hope I can fix. As for what I want to learn next, it has not changed and is still me wanting to learn h...

P.I.X.A.R Lighting:

Jaden McGrath                4/5/19 Right now, we will be discussing one of, if not the king animation studios in the profession of all time, P.I.X.A.R. More importantly, what happened behind the animation to bring some of their classic animated films to life on the screen. The two P.I.X.A.R animated movies that will be discussed are Finding Nemo and Wall-E. Starting off with Finding Nemo, it is a perfect example of how to combat unbelievable worlds and movements. In order to avoid it, they would connect with science and use it and the world that they know as a "backbone". It makes them ground themselves in something that is both recognizable and relatable. And seeing as how a major amount of the film takes place underwater, they took a clip of actual real underwater footage and recreates it using the computer. They would then break it back down so that they could see what elements make up the loo of the underwater world the film is set in for a...

Week Report #14

Jaden McGrath        4/4/19 This week in my animation class here at BOCES, I have actually finished all of the modeling for my final project. Which means all there is left to do is to render all of the cameras, put it into premiere, and put it all together with credits and sound effects. After that, it will be completely ready to be uploaded and then it will be finished. And in my opinion, it is both some of my best 3-D animation and animation overall I've ever done, if I do say so myself. I have to say for the most part, the modeling was quite easy to make and I even had fun with some of it like the designing of background items like the slide and the picnic table. Even modeling the person was pretty easy for the most part. But there was one thing about making it that really started to get on my nerves. And that is the animation on the scene where the man is poking the mysterious stone. It might sound like a simple action, but when I tried it I came across multipl...
