WALL-E Project:

Last Friday, we did a project in class where we watched the beloved P.I.X.A.R film, "WALL-E" and wrote down what the different elements of animation were in the film and where to find them. So this is what i found.

Squash and Stretch- An example of squash and stretch in the film is a specific moment where wall-e jumps off a hill and lands on the ground where his robot body and wheels bounce a bit when impacting the ground. How this is squash and stretch is that when impacting the ground, the body and wheels squash for just a millisecond to show off realistic movement.

Appeal- An example of appeal is the design of the robotic characters whether its WALL-E himself, Eva, or even Mo. Appeal is making the character look appealing to the human eye and all the robotic characters in the movie and even the spaceship itself looks amazingly appealing.

Anticipation- An example of anticipation is whenever some of the human characters or even some robot characters move. Anticipation is when a character puts emphasis in their movement whether it be throwing their arm back before they punch or throw something. And some of the characters do the same whether it be trying to get up or try to catch a group of falling kids.

Secondary Action- An example of Secondary action in the movie is WALL-E's eye and eyebrow expressions. They would at times move at the exact same time causing Secondary Action. Or maybe the body moves as the same time as the eyes.

Staging: An example of staging is the iconic shot of WALL-E on top on the spaceship touching the stars. WALL-E is the main part of the shot so he is the thing your eyes are drawn to.

Arc- An example of arc is the way that Eva flies, especially in space. Her flight patterns are very smooth and rounded just like how an arc is.
