Jaden McGrath         1/11/19 For this blog, it looks we are taking a little break from the 12 Basic Principals of Animation to discuss the visual effects in a film that is actually quite recent. And that film is 2018's surprise critical hit and easily the best Transformers movie to date, Bumblebee. Although all of the effects in the film were truly great, today we will be talking about one specific effect in the film which is the way both the Autobots and Decepticons transform from their robotic selves to their vehicle forms whether they be cars, planes, or even a cassette tape. This effect was also used in the other Transformers movies as well, so we will be discussing the way the effect was accomplished in those films as well. Back in the 2007 film, the animators and special effects crew had no idea how to make the transformations int the film possible. But they soon realized that every panel from the vehicle had to match the panel from their humanized robo...

Week Report #9

Jaden McGrath            1/11/19 This week in my animation class here at BOCES, we have really started to get deeper into working with 3-D animation. I have now moved a little bit away from tutorials and have stared and finished with a project where I modeled a whole scene in 3-D animation. I chose to make a 3-D render of a movie theater room and I think I did a pretty good job modeling a theater room and was even able to add a picture on the screen so it looked like a movie was actually playing. I guess my only frustration was that when I worked on the lamp rig project, I got frustrated while making it jump and it just kept messing up when it came to the way it looked when jumping. But luckily, I was able to fix the issue and now it looks like it's jumping instead of flying. Other than that, I think I'm starting to enjoy 3-D animation a little bit more. I still want to start working on animating people though. https://screenrant.com/avengers-4-terminall...

Timing

Jaden McGrath       1/4/19 Time to talk about one of the most important of the 12 Basic Principles of Animation which is Timing. Because no matter what you make or animate, timing is absolutely everything. And on a concept level, it may seem easy but what you may or may not know is that having your timing be flawless is actually quite difficult. It is a process that includes a few simple details like how quickly something moves and how long it stays still. In order to show something slowing in time, you have to add gravity, weight, and mass to that thing. Now if you want to do the opposite of that and actually make that thing speed up, then it'll add a sense of speed, lightness, and energy. There are tons of ways to apply all of those principles to your animation, but the easiest way to describe it is to explain famous DreamWorks and Disney animator Dave Burgess's process. He's worked on plenty of popular animated films such as Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, Over t...

Week Report #8

Jaden McGrath        1/4/19 This week in my animation class at BOCES, I was finally able to finish all of my tutorials and am now ready to start my modeling project. To be honest, I'm a little nervous to start it because I still find a lot of things in Maya very confusing and a bit too complicated. Hopefully I do a good job. What frustrated me was again the over complication of a lot of the things in Maya. Like seriously, the one tutorial with the bouncing red, blue, and green ball I had to do made me almost go into Hulk mode. But I'm just happy that all of those tutorials are over now. In the future, I would like to learn how to make a complete person design in Maya. https://screenrant.com/kevin-hart-oscars-host-controversy-ellen/ Just a few months ago, Kevin Hart was announced that he would be the host of the 91st annual Academy Awards and a lot of people got excited about it. But then homophobic tweets from the actor/comedian appeared and created controversy....
