Solid Drawing

Jaden McGrath      2/8/19 Well, it looks like it is time once again to discuss one of the 12 Basic Principles of Animation. And this time, we will be discussing the concept of Solid Drawing. Basically solid drawing is the ability to render a 3-D animated character in a 2-D animated space where you give it depth, balance, and weight. You have to be able to draw a character from any angle if you want to make the animation convincing. You shouldn't have your goal be to make a beautiful drawing, but instead have the goal to train your eye to recognize natural poses and study how muscles, fat, and bones work together with gravity to form dynamic poses. For example, when Jay Johnson who is a famous animator began work on Disney's The Fox and the Hound, his mentor Eric Larson stressed to him that he should spend half of his time planning it all out and spend the other half of the time. He also told him to not start animating until all of his planning was done and he knew exact...

Week Report #11

Jaden McGrath       2/8/19 This week in my animation class here at BOCES, I have begun finishing up my 3-D competition project. I mean there is still a lot to do like I need to add sound, an opening title, and ending credits, and combine everything together. But other than that, I am close to finishing the project. I think my favorite thing about this project is to experiment with the background and give it some details. I do this by continuously adding things you would typically see in a person's room like a dresser, a closet, a bookshelf, a computer, and even more. i was frustrated and had a hard time figuring out how to divide the animation into three clips, but thankfully I was able to figure it out. I still really want to learn how to create a human being from scratch in MAYA. I've wanted to learn how to make 3-D people for a while actually. https://deadentertainment.com/2019/02/04/telltales-the-walking-dead-the-final-season-physical-edition-gets-release-dat...

For-Profit Colleges

Jaden McGrath      2/1/19 Over the span of the last 15 years, students who attend schools that are known as "For-Profit colleges" have been taking out loans with horrifically high rates. And for most students who attend these schools, their path usually begins with an advertisement no matter how they come across it on the internet. In order to hook the students in, these advertisements include relatable and intriguing stories like a military veteran thinking about what he or she should do after coming home, an African American middle-aged man or woman stuck in a dead end job, or even a single mother who wants to be able to give her children better lives. Anything to manipulate or convince the students to want to attend to those colleges. Those ads catch the student's eye and plants the idea of going to that college right in their head. This may also lead to them calling the college or sending them an email to get a brochure for the college. And for these students, it ...

Week Report #10

Jaden McGrath         2/1/19 This week in my animation class here at BOCES, I have mostly continued work on my MAYA 3-D competition project. And let me just say, it is both very fun and very difficult t complete. Especially since I am not allowed to receive help from my teacher. I think one of the most fun aspects of this project which I also believe is something that I am getting better at is the background and making the objects for the background. In my project, I have a rabbit or hare hoping through his new room while he sees his reflection in a mirror for the first time and gets scared. For the room, I've added a mirror of course but I also added a desk, bed, nightstand, shelf, computer, dresser, etc. Making those has actually been quite fun and I think they turned out really nice. But two aspects that have made me a bit frustrated are making the hare move and making the camera switch angles during the animation. Also, my render view has been glitching up...
