Power Through Composition

Jaden McGrath       3/14/19 Now we are moving away from the 12 Basic Principals of Animation and will be discussing a topic that relates to both animation and live-action filmmaking. And that is how to give a character power through composition. And with this, an important thing to know whether or not you are a beginning animator or filmmaker or a seasoned and well-experienced expert is the Rule of Thirds. The Rule of Thirds is a great tool for you to use to establish dominance on-screen. To put it simply, the Rule of Thirds is pretty much a compositional guide that splits up the screen both horizontally and vertically which divides the screen into small sections. It also creates intersections that are guaranteed to help you compose both balanced and pleasing images. But as said before, the Rule of Thirds also establishes dominance as well. As experts have stated in the past, a ton of importance and power is given into the characters or subjects that are shown in...

Week Report #13

Jaden McGrath         3/14/19 This week in my animation class here at BOCES, I am closing in in finishing my independent study project which is an 11 second club project but in 3-D animation in MAYA. I have finished all of the body movements, lip sync, set design, and camera positions. All that is left for me to do is the rendering of those cameras before I put everything in premiere. But what's been really getting on my nerves is the render part. Because no matter what I do, whenever I render one of the cameras, the female model's eyes keep disappearing or her mouth stops working. And the more and more it fails, the more and more angry I become. The male model looks great and is rendering properly but the female one just keeps getting messed up and I'm close to my breaking point. So I guess if there is something I want to learn next, it would have to be how to fix the rendering for the female 3-D model before I have a mental breakdown. https://screenrant.com...

Appeal

Jaden McGrath       3/8/19 We shall now get into our next of the 12 Basic Principals of animation and that is appeal. Now appeal is a simple concept and that is that appeal is making your character, sets, and overall animation look interesting and intriguing to viewers. Appeal all depends on how you present your concepts, ideas, and emotional elevations to your audience because presentation is key.  There are many examples of ways your animation can be appealing. For example, an adorable and cute rabbit has just as much appeal as a messed up and creepy evil clown. Appeal doesn't mean what you animate has to be adorable or funny, as long as it is pleasant looking to the viewers, anything you animate can be appealing to them. Now what is interesting is that the other Basic Principals of Animation contribute to the concept of appeal. Like for example, by adding squash and stretch to a ball or a backward arm movement of anticipation on a baseball player, it act...

Week Report #12

Jaden McGrath        3/7/19 This week in my animation class here at BOCES, I have moved passed the competition and have two more projects on my agenda. The first of which was a diving board animation of a character jumping off a diving board and I was lucky enough to be able to go back to good old Harmony to do it in 2-D animation. I truly did miss using it. That project is all done and turned in already. And the second project takes me back into MAYA and 3-D animation for my Independent Study Project where you can choose between eight different kinds of assignments to complete. I ended up choosing to do another 11 second club project except this time, I'm using MAYA and it will be in 3-D animation instead of 2-D with Harmony. And even then, I have already put in a good amount of work into it with my male character already finished with his mouth, body, and facial movements that honestly look ten times better than I thought. However, the female model is really star...
