Week Report #17

Jaden McGrath           5/14/19

This week in my animation class here at Boces, I have begun working on the final aspects of my final project now that the overall animation has been completed. This means I have been working on the blog portion of the project which includes a blog n references I used to help make the animation and a blog about the project overall once finished. I have finished the overall project blog but I still need to finish the blog of references which may be tricky because I didn't use any visual references while making it. Most of what was in the animation came from my own head and if something didn't look right, I fixed it myself without the help of an outside source. So it is probably gonna be difficult to find examples of references to use for the blog when really I only used two or three when I was really having trouble with something. Other than those, I am also working on the other written assignments for the class such as my resume and my autobiography. My autobiography is already finished and printed but I am also almost done with my resume. All I need to complete it is to find out some basic information like when I received awards and stuff like that. Most of it has been easy but the overabundance of assignments can be a bit stressful. But it is nothing too bad seeing as how I am finished with two of them and the other two are near completion. I guess the references one might need some extra time to finish but other than that, I think I am all good with the blog and written assignments.

Ok so I would like to talk about two different articles today. One to report on and one to just let other people aware of because in a sick kind of way, it's hilarious. So, here we go.

Ever since October 24, 2014, moviegoers and Keanu Reeves fans have been in love with the action packed action series, John Wick. Before the films release, many people did not know what to think about it. Keanu Reeves was still considered a talented actor but it had been a long time since he starred in both a financial and critical hit. That was until the first John Wick film was released. The film is about an ex-hitman who loses his wife to cancer and receives a puppy in the mail as a last gift from his wife. But when gang members attack him in his own home, steal his car, and kills his dog, he goes on a path of revenge to hunt them all down and kill them all. When the film came out, people instantly reacted positively saying that the film was so much better than they ever thought it would be. It gained a 87% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and an 80% from audiences. it was also a box office success, gaining about $130,00,00 on just a $20,000,000 budget. Three years later, its sequel, John Wick: Chapter 2, was released on February 10th, 2017. It takes place after the events of the first film as John Wick once again tries to leave the life of a hit man behind. But when he is approached by a higher power in the hit man world who forces him to repay a debt, things go haywire as the man then puts a bounty on John's head. When the film was released, not only did both critics and audiences think it was just as good as the first, it also surpassed it and was even better. It received a 89% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics and a 85% from audiences. It earned a total of around $158,000,000 on a $30,000,000 budget. And now in 2019, we get the third film in the action series, John Wick Chapter 3: Parabellum. This one takes place literally seconds after John Wick: Chapter 2 where John Wick is now on the run and is attempting to prepare himself for his contract to go international and for every hitman to come after him to attempt to collect the bounty placed on him. And he must do so without the resources that were available to him before. From early reactions just like the previous films, not only is it just as good as the other two, but it even better with more action, more blood, and more of everything that made the other two so good. It currently rocks a fantastic 96% on Rotten Tomatoes with critics. I personally can't wait to see this third and hopefully not final John Wick film seeing as how Keanu Reeves as stated that he is open to starring in as many John Wick movies as the fans want.

Now that we have that out of the way, I would like to talk about a news story that released earlier this week that is both horrible and also really hilarious in a dark way. So apparently there was a movie theater in Montreal, Quebec, Canada that was holding a screening for the film, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu. But what ended up happening was that instead of showing Pokemon: Detective Pikachu, the theater accidentally showed a screening of the newest R-rated horror film in the Conjuring universe, The Curse of La Llorona to a theater of young kids.  No surprise that this little mix up caused the kids in the audience to be terrified and even traumatized from the horrific imagery they were exposed to. What they thought was going to be a viewing of a movie based on the classic Nintendo video game series and animated series, turned out to be a screening for a horror movie about a wedding dress wearing ghost who likes to drown little kids. I wouldn't be surprised that the parents of those kids are pretty upset with the fact that their kids were exposed to that. Now although it is horrible that something like this happened, I 'm not gonna lie, it is also downright hilarious. I mean the fact that a movie about a ghost drowning children in a movie designed to scare children was accidentally shown to a theater filled with children is just too coincidental to be a simple mistake. It makes me think if these movie theaters are ding this on purpose to claim some kind of publicity. Who knows? It could've been a simple mistake. But all I know is that those parents might have therapy bills to be paying soon for their kids.
