Final Project: References

Jaden McGrath      5/13/19 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjkb8YxE9PM&t=155s I used this video in order to improve a specific part of my animation where the main character has to turn around so that his whole body is facing the stone in front of him at his feet. That way the man doesn't look like he is just sliding while turning. In order to make the character turn without looking like he's sliding on ice is to bring the one leg up and put it down before moving the other leg until his body faces from the side to facing in the direction of the stone. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sRETjE5smyo I used this video to help me in making the characters in my animation grab other objects that I modeled. This can range from them picking up a stone or even lifting another individual's legs. To make a character lift something and hold in in his hand is to use the controls for both the wrist and fingers along with the control for the arm in order to move the arm down to ...

Pokemon: Detective Pikachu

Jaden McGrath          5/14/19 In yet another film adaptation of not only a video game series, but also an animated series comes Warner Brothers newest film, Pokemon: Detective Pikachu. In this half live-action and half animated adaptation of the popular video game and animated franchise, it follows a boy named Tim Goodman played by Justice Smith who comes across a talking and intelligent Pikachu voiced by Ryan Reynolds who seeks to be a detective. Together the two of them will go on both a mystery and a journey to try and find Tim's long lost father. When animating the multiple Pokemon for the film, the animators found it to be a challenge when it comes to bringing these popular creatures from 2-D anime animation to CGI 3-D animation in the real world. Especially since the Pokemon have stuck to a one specific design for around two decades of their existence. This process took about more than a thousand digital artists from all across the world to work for thr...

Week Report #17

Jaden McGrath           5/14/19 This week in my animation class here at Boces, I have begun working on the final aspects of my final project now that the overall animation has been completed. This means I have been working on the blog portion of the project which includes a blog n references I used to help make the animation and a blog about the project overall once finished. I have finished the overall project blog but I still need to finish the blog of references which may be tricky because I didn't use any visual references while making it. Most of what was in the animation came from my own head and if something didn't look right, I fixed it myself without the help of an outside source. So it is probably gonna be difficult to find examples of references to use for the blog when really I only used two or three when I was really having trouble with something. Other than those, I am also working on the other written assignments for the class such as my re...

Final Project: Analysis and Reflection

Jaden McGrath         5/13/19 For this final project in our animation class here at Sanborn BOCES, we were assigned a project where a character discovers something unusual and unknown to them and interacts with that same unusual thing whether it be an object, a place, or even another creature. What I decided to do for my animation is to make a scene where a man finds a mysterious stone on the ground during a jog through the park while at the same time, he doesn't realize the sinister situation that is about to take place. This idea was formed into my head after watching two specific movies. The first film I used for inspiration was Marvel Studios's "Avengers: Infinity War", which inspired the idea of the mysterious stone based off of the infinity stones from the film. The second film that i got inspiration from was Jordan Peele's, "Us", which inspired the sinister situation that takes place after the man picks up the stone. (No Spoilers). I chose to d...

LAIKA

Jaden McGrath      5/3/19 Ever since their debut in 2009 with Coraline, Laika Studios has put out some of the best animated films in the last decade. From Coraline to ParaNorman to the Boxtrolls to Kubo and the Two Strings to even their most recent release, Missing Link, Laika has truly been a winning streak with the quality of their films. They have definitely become one of the most beautiful and inventive animation studios in recent history with their excellent use of stop motion animation in all their films. But not only are they the most beautiful, Laika is also one of the most hardworking animation studios around since mostly everything in their films had to actually be made by hand. From the characters themselves, the sets, the props, the ground, the water, the trees, and mostly everything had to be physically built and moved frame by frame to make an actual film out of it, which is Laika's specialty like another stop motion studio, Aardman. To make a character ...

Week Report #16

Jaden McGrath           5/3/19 This week in my animation class here at BOCES, I have just wrapped up animating and rendering the second half of my final project. I mean there is always the opportunity to go back and fix something before the due date, but for now, both halves of the project are finished. Now all that's left to do is to add in the sound effects on the second half into premiere and go back to part one and make a few more altercations. Other than the two blogs that I must also complete for the project, I am pretty darn close to finishing the whole assignment. For the most part, animating the second half was fun with the exception of just one thing. For some odd reason, sometimes Maya would like to pull a joke on me and change scenes that I have previously finished whenever I went back to fix something from a previous moment. And even if I set a series of keyed frames in the scene, it will somehow be messed up if I go back to fix anything. For...
